Audi Q6 e-tron off-road: extreme electric SUV concept

This is the new Audi Q6 e-tron off-road concept: an extreme, apocalypse-ready version of the brand's latest electric SUV that, they say, will take "off-road adventures to the next level" by reimagining the "quattro" system.

The car is based on the elegant Q6 Sportback e-tron coupé, which was introduced late last year, and adds sporty style to Audi's comfortable and premium electric SUV.

To overcome the biggest obstacles in the wild, this extreme SUV has received the latest portal axles, which significantly increase ground clearance. Similar technology was used in the impressive Mercedes G 63 4×4², and in the future such axles may also appear in the Ineos Grenadier SUV and Quartermaster pickup.

Instead of the standard low-rolling resistance tires, the Q6 e-tron off-road is fitted with studded off-road tires suitable for snow conditions. To accommodate this rubber and increase the suspension travel, Audi has widened the wheel arches, and additional lights in the new front bumper and on the roof rack will help you find your way back to the main road.

While Audi hasn't shared any technical details about the concept, it's almost certain to use the same 100kWh battery and dual-motor powertrain found in the top-of-the-line Q6 e-tron. The motors on each axle provide all-wheel drive and up to 510hp, depending on the model.

Only three images of the concept have been released so far, but this probably won't be the last we'll see of the Audi Q6 e-tron off-road. It's possible the company will release a slightly stripped-down production version, similar to the limited-edition Q8 e-tron Dakar Edition we tested last year, although there's no official confirmation yet.
