Eggs are a nutrient-dense food that contains protein, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and vitamin B12. But do you know how long they last?
Eggs have a shelf life of three to five weeks when stored in an intact shell and refrigerated at temperatures around zero.
Before buying eggs, open the package and check for cracks in the shell. Even if you notice microcracks, do not buy such a product. Other visual signs of a bad batch include a slimy or powdery surface.
You can also check the freshness of an egg by checking its buoyancy. If, after carefully dropping a raw egg into a bowl of cold water, you see it float, it is most likely old. To keep eggs longer, take them home as soon as possible after purchase and put them in the refrigerator. Do not leave the product for two hours or more at room temperature.
