US President Joe Biden has already shown significant support for Ukraine. However, his final decisions will now depend on a number of factors, including the course of the war, the domestic political situation in the United States and the international context. At the moment, the main obstacles to the allocation of an aid package to Ukraine may arise from several sources. This was told by the expert of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics, Eva Antonenko.

"Although the Biden administration actively supports Ukraine, the decision to allocate large amounts of aid requires the approval of Congress. If disagreements remain in Congress over the amount and terms of aid, it could delay or limit the allocation of funds. The position of the Republicans is currently outlined: most of them are waiting for the inauguration of Trump. For example, Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, rejected the request of the Biden administration to allocate an additional $24 billion in aid to Ukraine by the end of the year. He said any further aid would be decided by President-elect Trump after he takes office. And Mitch McConnell, the leader of the Republicans in the Senate, noted that it is almost impossible to pass an additional funding package that includes aid to Ukraine before Christmas, even if an agreement is reached in the coming days," the expert says.

In her opinion, these statements indicate that the Republicans currently do not support the allocation of additional aid to Ukraine before the new president takes office. This creates obstacles for quick decision-making regarding support for Ukraine. Biden may try to use executive powers to allocate aid, but this may be limited by legislative frameworks and political realities," Eva Antonenko concluded.
