Ukraine plans to significantly increase fines for parking in places for people with disabilities. Head of the Parliamentary Committee on the Organization of State Power, Olena Shulyak, reported that the current amount of the fine of UAH 2000 is insufficient and should increase in order to get closer to EU standards, writes MMR. For example, in Germany, up to 370 euros are charged for such a violation.
According to Shulyak, the problem of parking in big cities, in particular in Kyiv, has significantly worsened due to the insufficient number of parking spaces. People are forced to leave their cars in undesignated places, in particular, in places designated for people with disabilities.
To solve the situation, the new construction regulations, introduced even before the war, provide for an increase in parking spaces in new residential complexes. However, developers often ignore these requirements, trying to cut costs, which exacerbates the problem of a lack of parking spaces.
Shulyak emphasized that appeals to drivers' consciousness often do not yield results. She believes that tougher measures, such as increased fines, can be effective. The experience of tow trucks has confirmed that significant costs encourage drivers to comply with the rules.
Thus, increasing fines for parking in places for people with disabilities can be an important step in combating violations, improving infrastructure, and bringing Ukraine closer to European standards.
