A rapper who was previously sentenced to death was released in Iran - Reuters

Iranian rapper Tumaj Salehi, who was previously sentenced to death on charges of supporting anti-government protests in the country, was released on Monday after serving a year in prison.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Reuters.

In his songs, Tumaj Salehi supported the months-long protests in Iran during 2022-2023, which were caused by the death of a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, in the district police station, where she was taken for "improperly wearing the hijab".

The man was arrested in October 2022 after his public statements in support of nationwide protests in the country.

Salehi was sentenced to death in April this year on charges related to the country's 2022-2023 unrest, but Iran's Supreme Court overturned that sentence in June.

Soon, street protests began in Iran. People chanted slogans against police violence, against the Iranian authorities' fight against dissent, for the democratization of the country and for the overthrow of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Protesters believe that the reason for Amini's death was a beating by members of the security forces.
