Syrian opposition forces will receive a harsh response in case of attempts to attack Russian military bases on the territory of Syria. This was stated by Andriy Kartapolov, chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Defense, in a comment for journalists.
"As far as the opposition is concerned, they know that if they climb onto the bases, they will get snot," Kartapolov emphasized.
He emphasized that the Russian military allegedly continues to perform tasks in accordance with the orders of the President of the Russian Federation, and their safety at the bases in Syria is ensured. According to him, there are no military units cut off from the bases, and all problematic issues have been resolved.
"Our opponents and so-called former partners, of course, would like there to be no Russian bases in Syria. But this will not happen," the Russian deputy confidently declared.
Earlier it became known that on the night of December 8, the Syrian opposition captured Damascus, announcing the end of the rule of President Bashar Assad. As reported Reuters, the Syrian army confirmed that Assad's rule had ended.
Bashar Assad decided to leave the post of head of state and leave Syria, instructing him to carry out a peaceful transfer of power. Later, the Kremlin reported that Assad and his family had arrived in Moscow, where he was granted asylum on humanitarian grounds.
It also became known that the Syrian opposition established control over Latakia province, where Russian military bases are located. Despite this, the bases in Tartus and Khmeimim continue to operate as usual. Militants entered the territory of the cities of Tartus and Jebla, but did not enter the objects controlled by the Russian military.
