Former South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, accused of involvement in last week's constitutional coup attempt, tried to commit suicide in a detention cell in a Seoul prison.

As the law enforcement officers said, on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday at around 23:50 PM, Kim was arrested while trying to hang himself in the bathroom of the isolation cell of Seoul Prison with a rope made of knitted clothes.

The team of doctors called by the guards stated that there were no complications with the former minister's health.

He is currently being held under normal conditions.

In addition, Korean media reports, as part of the investigation into the coup attempt, the police on Wednesday searched the office of President Yoon Seok-yeol and the headquarters of the National and Metropolitan Police, whose leaders were detained in the morning of the same day.

It is reported that Yoon was not in the presidential office building when investigators arrived there to conduct the proceedings.
