In Lithuania, a former member of the conservative party is suspected of spying for Russia

The Prosecutor's Office of Lithuania announced the completion of the investigation in the case of espionage in favor of Russia. According to mass media, the suspect is Eduard Manov, a former member of the conservative party "Union of the Fatherland - Christian Democrats", member of the "Union of Deportees and Political Prisoners".

The chief prosecutor of the Department of Investigation of Organized Crime and Corruption of Lithuania, Arturas Urbialis, said that the pre-trial investigation, which began back in January, has been completed, and the case will be brought to court in the near future. According to him, it was established that this person (he did not give his name because the case has not yet been brought to court), having dual citizenship of Lithuania and Russia, collected information and passed it on to Russian services.

It is noted that the suspect has been carrying out his espionage activities in Lithuania since around 2018. He had no working relations with Lithuanian institutions, added Urbialis. Identification of persons who were his accomplices is underway.

The deputy director of the DDB, Remigius Bridikis, noted that the suspect is a person specially trained by the Russian services, who used sophisticated communication equipment for espionage and, according to Lithuanian intelligence, was recruited and provided information to the GRU of the Russian Federation. The suspect collected information for money and traveled to other countries for this purpose.

The deputy director of the DDB, Remigius Bridikis, noted that unclassified but sensitive information was collected, which was of interest to Russia and related to the political situation and current events in the country.

LRT names the suspect as Eduard Manov. In 2011, he nominated his candidacy for the Šiauliai City Council elections from the "Union of the Fatherland - Lithuanian Christian Democrats" party, and was also a member of the Council of the Šiauliai branch of the Union of Deportees and Political Prisoners. Manov is known as a photo artist, and in 2014 he presented his photo exhibition in Šiauliai.
