Trump believes that the US should not provide subsidies to Mexico and Canada

The US president-elect has proposed making Mexico and Canada US states because of the trade imbalance between the countries.

Mexico and Canada could join the United States instead of receiving subsidies. US President-elect Donald Trump said this in an interview with NBC News.

"We subsidize Canada in the amount of more than 100 billion dollars a year. We subsidize Mexico for almost 300 billion dollars. We shouldn't do that. Why are we subsidizing these countries? Let them become new states instead of subsidies," he said.
The three countries currently enjoy a near-tariff-free regime under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada agreement signed by Trump during his first term as president.
