Newly elected US President Donald Trump has proposed the candidacy of Jared Isaacman, a private billionaire astronaut and business partner of billionaire Elon Musk, for the position of head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Reuters.
"Jared will lead NASA, paving the way for groundbreaking advances in space science, technology and exploration," Trump wrote on his Twitter account, Truth Social.
Isaacman is said to be the CEO of payments processing company Shift4 Payments.
He has already flown twice into space on SpaceX capsules organized by its Polaris mission.
Isaacman has partnered with Musk, spending hundreds of millions of dollars as a key client of SpaceX's private astronaut mission business.
It is noted that if the Senate approves Isaacman's candidacy, he will control NASA's budget, which is about 25 billion dollars.
The agency's top priority is returning humans to the moon as part of the Artemis program, which Trump championed during his first term as president and which will rely heavily on SpaceX's Starship spacecraft.
