Will Putin follow the path of his friend Assad?
There is no need to be afraid of the "bear" in Ukraine or elsewhere, where it causes chaos, the Lithuanian diplomat said.
Outgoing Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielus Landsbergis said that the events in Syria indicate the possibility of defeating Russia in Ukraine.
According to Landsbergis, the news from Syria proves that Russia can be overcome.
"The example of Syria shows that Russia can be driven away, and it will return home. The Baltics were right - the West is strong enough to win. We don't need to be afraid of the "bear" in Ukraine or elsewhere, where it causes chaos," said the Lithuanian diplomat.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Annalena Burbok, also reacted to the situation in Syria.
According to Burbock, it is currently "impossible to say exactly what is happening in Syria right now", but one thing is clear - for millions of people in Syria, the end of Assad means the first big relief after an eternity of atrocities committed by his regime.
The minister emphasized that now the country should not fall into the hands of other radicals - "regardless of the screen under which they hide."
"Therefore, we call on the parties to the conflict to take responsibility for all Syrians. This includes comprehensive protection of ethnic and religious minorities, such as Kurds, Alawites or Christians, as well as an inclusive political process that will create a balance between groups,” she said.
On Sunday afternoon, the Russian Foreign Ministry, which is an ally of the Syrian regime, issued a statement announcing that Assad had left the presidency and Syria.
