Skin disease can be a sign of high cholesterol

High cholesterol can increase the risk of heart disease. LDL is a type of cholesterol called "bad." It is able to stick to the walls of the arteries from the inside, so it is necessary to closely monitor it.

Research has shown that a skin disease can indicate an increase in cholesterol levels.

Experts have discovered a connection between high blood cholesterol levels and psoriasis symptoms. This is a disease in which red, scaly, crusted areas of the skin appear. Often, such patients have high cholesterol levels due to a class of immune cells that are associated with hyperlipidemia (a large amount of fat in the blood) and the development of symptoms of the disease.

Scientists conducted an experiment on mice, studying animals with specific immune cells. They are called self-reactive T-cells that contact the lipid bilayer and high cholesterol. The scientists noticed that mice with hyperlipidemia developed skin diseases similar to common psoriasis in humans.

To lower cholesterol, experts recommend reducing the consumption of fatty foods, especially those that contain saturated fats. However, you can eat foods that contain unsaturated fats, such as olive oil. In addition, it is recommended to pay attention to the Mediterranean diet. It is rich in vegetables, fruits, legumes and nuts.
