The Tesla company announced a plan to present the most affordable electric car already in the first half of next year. The statement was made, as Global China EV writes, as part of a meeting with investors with the participation of Deutsche Bank and one of the firm's top managers, Travis Axelrod, in New York. The new product is said to be called Model Q, and it will cost less than $30.
Insiders assure that the length of the Tesla Model Q will not exceed 4 meters, while the novelty will be about a third lighter than the current Model 3 and twice as cheap to manufacture. It is planned to produce Model Q on lines that already exist.
According to preliminary data, the electric car, like other Tesla models, will receive power plants with one and two motors and will be able to drive up to 500 kilometers without recharging. There are no other technical data yet.
The expected cost of the novelty will be lower than 30 thousand dollars, provided that the current subsidy on electric cars is not canceled in the United States. Its size is 7,5 thousand dollars. The launch of the Model Q is expected to help Tesla achieve its strategic goal of 30 percent annual sales growth.
Tesla itself has not yet confirmed these plans. In October, it was reported that the company abandoned the idea of releasing a budget electric car with traditional controls: Tesla plans to fill this niche with the Cybercab drone, which also expects to sell for less than $30. However, it will be able to enter the market no earlier than 2027 and only if some legislative norms in the USA are revised.
