US President-elect Donald Trump believes that Russia will not be able to help the government of Bashar al-Assad in Syria during the offensive of the rebels, because the aggressor state has already suffered significant losses in the war in Ukraine.
He wrote about this on his page in the Truth Social social network.
"Russia, so tied up in Ukraine and having lost more than 600 soldiers there, seems unable to stop this literal march through Syria, a country it has protected for years," Trump's post reads.
At the same time, the US president-elect criticized his predecessor in the White House, Barack Obama, for backing away from the "red lines" he had set for Assad during the conflict and allowing Russia to intervene.
"Syria has never been of much use to Russia, other than to make Obama look really stupid," Trump wrote sharply.
In his post, the American leader claims that opposition fighters in Syria have completely captured numerous cities in a well-coordinated offensive and are now on the outskirts of Damascus, apparently preparing to take a very big step to remove Assad.
Trump emphasized that the United States should not intervene in this conflict.
“Syria is a mess, but it is not our friend and the United States should have nothing to do with it. This is not our war. Let it unfold. Do not interfere!” he wrote.
