There is a high probability that Russian President Vladimir Putin will have to redeploy some forces or resources due to events in Syria.
Oleksandr Merezhko, Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, said this in a comment.
Answering a question about how the events in Syria affect Ukraine, he noted that there are certain achievements by the opposition in the region.
"The main thing for us is that it is about weakening Putin's ally Bashar Assad, his regime. This is the most important thing. Because any weakening of even Putin's allies eventually weakens Russia as well," the deputy explained.
According to Merezhko, when Assad strengthened his power for a certain time, it also strengthened Russia, giving it more military opportunities for aggression against Ukraine.
"Now the situation may be different. In the sense that Putin will be forced to save Bashar Assad and his regime. And this means that there is a high probability that Putin will have to transfer even certain forces or resources. And this weakens his capabilities and his concentration on the front against Ukraine", he noted and added that there could be a positive result for Ukraine from the point of view of the war.
The war in Syria is important news

Maxim Zhorin, deputy commander of the Third Separate Assault Brigade, noted that "it is particularly pleasant to observe the events in Syria, because they are now striking good blows at the Russians."
