The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, spoke about the telephone conversation with the newly elected President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, during which they discussed the war in Ukraine.
In an interview with Bloomberg, the politician said that he was pleasantly surprised by this conversation. They discussed Prague's position on the Russian invasion, and then Trump talked about his family ties to the Czech Republic, where his late wife Ivanna was born:
"Mr. Trump wanted to understand our point of view. I believe that he is very well aware that the situation in Ukraine - and in the Middle East - must be resolved, and that the solution will be very difficult."
Fiala warns the allies against the policy of appeasement of the aggressor, since the forced loss of territory by Ukraine will only contribute to the Russian military machine. In his opinion, if the ceasefire conditions are not accepted by Kyiv, Europe will face a repetition of the Munich Agreement.
"We found ourselves in a very difficult and dangerous situation, which some rightly describe as the second cold war. It is in our best interest to have a strong America that shows its strength to Russia, because that is the only chance to stop Putin. The security of Europe simply cannot be ensured by Russia, which occupies part of Ukraine and continues its aggression. I do not believe in the policy of appeasement - it always benefits the aggressor. Always," he said.
The Czech Prime Minister called on European allies to increase spending on defense and aid to Ukraine, without waiting for the first steps from the Americans.
Trump's plan for war
The newly elected American president promised that he would be able to end the war in Ukraine within a day, but that never happened. In a recent interview, he said that he is already trying to do this.
The other day, Trump said that the countries should immediately cease fire and start negotiations, because the continuation of the war risks leading to something "much bigger and worse."
