Syria's former ruling Baath party, which was ruled for decades by the family of ex-president Bashar al-Assad, has announced a temporary suspension of its work.
According to CNN, referring to the party's statement, they will hand over all property, finances and weapons to the Syrian government authorities.
"Vehicles and weapons that were in the possession of comrades should be handed over to the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the nearest police unit or station," the statement said.
In addition, it is indicated that all property and funds of the Baath Party will be placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Justice, and the proceeds will be kept in the Central Bank of Syria.
The situation in Syria
The offensive of the rebel forces in Syria began on November 27, and already on December 8, the command of the Syrian army informed the officers about the fall of the regime of President Bashar Assad. It was noted that Assad left Damascus and went in an unknown direction. The rebels claim that they entered the capital without resistance from the army.
Later, the Kremlin officially confirmed that after the fall of the dictatorial regime in Syria, Assad received asylum in the Russian Federation. Putin's press secretary Dmytro Peskov said that the decision was made by the Russian leader personally.
The Times wrote that the collapse of the Assad regime was a "colossal geopolitical defeat" for Russia.
