The latest Russian medium-range ballistic missile "Oreshnik", even in a non-nuclear version, can threaten catastrophic consequences for Europe. This is the assessment made by The Washington Post newspaper.
According to the publication, the use of the Oreshnik missile by the Russian armed forces served as a "powerful signal" to the West about the determination of the Russian leadership to "weaken NATO, split Europe and the USA, as well as keep Europe from supporting Ukraine and change the security architecture in Europe in accordance with the Russian vision." .
The newspaper cites the opinion of analysts, according to whom "Oreshnik" is a direct threat of potentially catastrophic consequences for Europe, even in a non-nuclear version."
The Washington Post, in particular, quotes an expert from the American Center for Naval Analysis (CNA), Decker Eveleth, who noted that the use of several Oreshnik missiles in a conventional manner threatens to destroy a large number of Air Force bases and other military facilities in Europe.
"The Oreshnik missile is probably capable of delivering six nuclear warheads to Europe within 15-20 minutes, and due to its speed and flight trajectory, it would be extremely difficult to intercept it," he noted.
