Some people are genetically predisposed to developing certain types of cancer. The oncologist talked about the common types of hereditary cancer.

There is such a thing as a "cancer family" - relatives in it suffer from the same cancer. Meanwhile, the oncologist explains: with "bad heredity" cancer itself is not transmitted, but only a predisposition to it.

"When several cases of cancer are detected in a family at once, it often turns out to be a coincidence, or it is due to the fact that family members are exposed to common risk factors, for example, smoke," the oncologist said.

The oncologist said that a certain set of genes is transmitted from each parent to the child, with which he can also get a mutated version of the gene, which increases the likelihood of a tumor in one of the body's organs. However, due to the influence of a genetic mutation, only up to 10% of all types of tumors develop, according to the data of the American Cancer Society.

"The pathology of the reproductive organs (breast gland and ovarian cancer) and the digestive system are considered common types of hereditary forms of cancer," the doctor said.

Also, the doctor noted, inherited disorders in the form of syndromes can lead to the development of cancer. Such, for example, is a genetic disease such as Lynch syndrome, which is associated with the occurrence of colon cancer, stomach and ureter cancer, and uterine cancer.

Doctors also know Cowden syndrome and Li-Fraumeni syndrome, which are hereditary. The first can lead to breast cancer, as well as cancer of the digestive tract, thyroid gland, uterus and ovaries, the second - also to breast cancer, and also to brain and lung cancer.

The oncologist recommended that first of all those people who had first-degree relatives with cancer - parents, sisters, brothers, children - undergo thorough and regular examinations.
