This year it became known that trust in electric cars and hybrids is decreasing. Traditional cars with internal combustion engines (ICE) and hybrids remain the most reliable modes of transport.
What else is known:
Research shows that the reliability of electric cars this year has deteriorated by 42% compared to cars with internal combustion engines. Last year, this gap was 79%. At the same time, plug-in hybrids show improvement: if last year their level of unreliability was 146%, this year it is only 70%.
Tesla ranked just 17th on Consumer Reports' brand reliability scale. Owners of electric cars of this brand report problems with the assembly: body defects, paint, noise, leaks and malfunctions of electrical accessories.
Among Ford models, the hybrid version of the F-150 proved to be the worst, taking 13th place. The American Rivian became the least reliable brand, occupying the 22nd position. The leaders of the rating remain Japanese manufacturers — Subaru, Lexus and Toyota.
Jake Fisher, senior director of the Consumer Reports Automotive Test Center, emphasizes the importance of evaluating the reliability of a particular model before purchasing.
The Consumer Reports study covers 20 key car parts, including engines, transmissions and electronics, and is based on data from more than 330 vehicles from the 2000 to 2024 model years.
