Macron actively offers to send a peacekeeping mission to Ukraine, which will ensure that the Russians do not violate the ceasefire
The military contingent can number five brigades, and the command of one brigade could be given to Poland.
French President Emmanuel Macron will arrive in Warsaw on Thursday, December 12, to discuss with the Polish side the peacekeeping mission, which is supposed to protect Ukraine's sovereignty in case of signing an agreement with Russia. This was stated by ex-Deputy Secretary General of NATO Kamil Grand in a comment to the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita.
According to him, during the meeting with the newly elected US President Donald Trump, the French leader could have informed about Europe's readiness to take on the risk of protecting Ukrainian sovereignty.
France actively offers to send a peacekeeping mission to the country, which will ensure that the occupiers do not violate the ceasefire. The project of this mission is being developed by the French Institute of International Relations. Eli Tenenbaum, an expert of this institution, reported that the military contingent may number five brigades, that is, almost 40 servicemen. Command of one brigade could be given to Poland.
Currently, there are only three scenarios for providing security guarantees to Ukraine.
The USA and Germany oppose the "German" one, which provides for the country's entry into the North Atlantic Alliance while part of its territories are under occupation.
The "Israeli" model is uncertain, because the constant supply of weapons to Ukraine will depend on the state of the US and European budgets.
The "Korean" model is an international peacekeeping mission that has been guarding the demarcation line between South and North Korea for over 70 years. It is on this third model, with the inclusion of elements of the first and second, that security guarantees for Kyiv should be based.
Grand believes that it is important to involve as many countries and the United States as possible in such a mission, even if their participation is only symbolic. He predicts that Germany and the Netherlands may support this idea after the elections.
