China has achieved a new breakthrough in quantum technology by introducing the Tianyan-504 quantum computer with 504 qubits. The development was the result of cooperation between the China Telecom Quantum Group (CTQG), the Center of Excellence in Quantum Information and Quantum Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the company QuantumCTek from Anhui Province, Interesting Engineering informs.

The Tianyan-504 computer will be integrated into the Tianyan cloud platform, launched in November 2023. This platform has already received more than 12 million visits from more than 50 countries, providing access to quantum computing services for researchers worldwide. CTQG plans to work with QuantumCTek to develop a new quantum computer based on the Xiaohong chip, which has 504 qubits, setting a national record for the number of qubits for superconducting quantum chips.

Xiaohong's new chip provides high qubit lifetimes, precision gate operations, and quantum circuit depth that meet international standards set by platforms such as IBM. It also supports the testing of measurement and control systems with a thousand qubits, which are key components for advancing quantum computers.

Apart from superconducting chips, China is the only country to have achieved quantum supremacy in both photonics and superconducting technologies. This breakthrough was made possible by the development of Jiuzhang 2.0 and Zuchongzhi 2.1, each of which has 113 detected photons and 66 qubits, respectively.

The success of Tianyan-504 demonstrates the rapid development of quantum technologies in China and their applications in numerous fields, including artificial intelligence, materials science and environmental meteorology.
