Tesla has been forced to make several major changes to the design of its Supercharger network, including adding longer cables to make things smoother as more EVs from other manufacturers join the network and complicate the situation.
We previously reported that many of the charging ports on other brands of EVs are located in different locations than on Tesla. This forces EV drivers to park in a way that blocks another charging port when connecting to a Supercharger. Longer cables at Supercharger stations are expected to correct this problem.
Tesla's latest software update also improves the accuracy of free charging port estimates.
In addition, Tesla will encourage electric car manufacturers to move the location of the charging ports to the rear left or front right corner of the car. This should ensure full compatibility with third-party EVs with short Supercharger network cables.
