In addition to verbal language, we also communicate with the people around us with the help of body language - it helps to understand what the interlocutor really means and what he feels during the conversation. What you do with your hands, neck, waist and so on can convey a very clear message to another person - and sometimes not at all the one you want to convey.
Below you will find a list of gestures and poses to avoid - unless, of course, you want to lose your attractiveness in the eyes of other people!
"Akimbo"
This gesture gives the interlocutor an idea of you as a malicious person. It makes you look tight and unapproachable. Believe me, this is not the best gesture to use in a company.
Crossed legs
When you cross your legs while sitting during a conversation, you are telling the interlocutor that you are not particularly familiar with the subject of your conversation and are very insecure. So, they should look for someone who really understands this (or looks like it). Also, many complement the crossed legs with another negative gesture, putting their hands in their pockets. This makes us look nervous and does not deserve the undivided attention of our interlocutor.
Clenched fists
Clenched fists tell the interlocutor that you are not particularly eager to be where you are now. If you involuntarily clench your fists during a conversation, he may think that at the moment you would rather be anywhere but next to him. This gesture makes you seem disinterested in the conversation - as if with the help of clenched fists you are creating an invisible wall between you and the interlocutor.
Raised clenched fists
As already mentioned, clenched fists are perceived as a wall, and the higher you raise them, the higher this wall is perceived. People around you instinctively increase the distance between you because it looks like you're going to hit someone.
Crouched back
This pose can deal a devastating blow not only to your image, but also to your health. When you hunch your back, it seems to others that you are depressed and very unhappy with everything that is happening around us. Sometimes we do accept it for these reasons, but believe me, it does nothing to get anyone to at least try to help us solve our problems. And absolutely definitely does not help to make new friends. If you want to impress others, try to always walk with your back straight and your head held high.
Crooked smile
Frankly, a smile makes the interlocutor assume that you have some sneaky secret plan, or that you think something bad about those present. And it also makes you suspicious of coldness and insincerity.
Pointing with your hand (or finger) to the person you are talking to
It's a small gesture, and not everyone notices it, but that doesn't make it any less rude. When you point your finger at the person you're talking to, it may seem like you're telling them to shut up.
Clenched fist with protruding thumb
This gesture makes it clear to the interlocutor that you are not very interested in what he is saying. This annoys people, and makes them avoid contact with you. Try to appear as open as possible.
A hand covering the mouth
If you cover your mouth with your hand during a conversation, it makes the interlocutor assume that you have some information that you are hiding from him or that you are trying to lie to him. Naturally, he quickly loses interest in the conversation.
Accompanied by a judgmental look
We do not think that this gesture needs an explanation. People just hate self-indulgence.
The more open and less threatening your gestures and postures are, the more people will like you. Positivity and openness can work wonders.
