The US government was quick to put an end to all speculation about aliens and announced that it was actually a meteor. However, people didn't care.
Residents of the small town of Kecksburg (Pennsylvania, USA) annually celebrate the day of the appearance of the alleged UFO for almost 60 years. The Mirror writes about it.
One December night in 1965 changed the future of a small American town forever after residents reported seeing something very strange falling from the sky. Since then, Kecksburg has become famous for its supposed UFO crash.
On December 9, 1965, a huge "ball of fire" was seen on the territory of seven states of the USA and Canada, which swept through the night sky and fell in the forest. She was also spotted over Kecksburg. Residents quickly learned about the news and were sure that it was indeed a UFO that had arrived in their town.
The US government was quick to put an end to all speculation about aliens and informed all concerned that it was in fact a meteor that had fallen to Earth. However, the residents of Kecksburg have already jokingly called the object that fell from the sky a "space acorn" because of its unusual shape.
Later, people began to celebrate the day of the meeting with the alleged UFO. The annual three-day festival celebrating the event is hosted by the Kecksburg Fire Department.
“It's really amazing, I really liked it! It was almost like a flea market with vendors selling things related to aliens and UFOs. I bought a great poster of the acorn shaped aircraft in Kecksburg at the crash site - 10/10. It's really awesome. It's a shame I couldn't be there for the other two days," one local resident who attended this year's event wrote on Reddit.
The publication notes that the Kecksburg UFO case became widely publicized in 1990 after it was filmed for the TV show "Unsolved Mysteries." In it, residents of the city were asked about this incident. The participants of the show even made a copy of the "space acorn", which was later presented to Kecksburg.
