The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, announced what kind of military assistance Ukraine needs from South Korea. The president said this in an interview with the South Korean TV channel KBS.
The head of state said that he does not know what proposals the delegation from South Korea will come to Ukraine with.
"We had a very good conversation. We have good relations with the president of South Korea. We are waiting for the appropriate group," Zelenskyi said.
The president said that Ukraine would be glad to meet specialists from South Korea.
"We will definitely share the data we have. We will certainly be glad of our cooperation. I think this is important. And this is a challenge for your region as well," Zelenskyy said.
He is sure that North Korea will also be able to gain experience from the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine, and the DPRK will use this experience against South Korea and against peace.
As the president said, official Kyiv is happy to support the deepening of relations with Seoul. Zelensky emphasized:
"We would really like help, from your experience, in air defense. We would very much like to continue working in the defense-industrial complex in the same way. I believe that this is absolutely fair."
The head of state believes that helping Ukraine should correspond to the interests of Seoul, so that the Defense Forces of Ukraine are strengthened thanks to South Korea.
Zelenskyi also said that South Korea could analyze which of its air defense systems work against missiles from North Korea and the Russian Federation that Russia launches against Ukraine.
In addition, he was asked about the main goal of the negotiations, when the Ukrainian delegation will come to Seoul.
As Zelensky said, it will be about what Ukraine and South Korea can do to help each other. He added:
"We know exactly what we need from South Korea. We would definitely like to count on that. First of all, it is defense - it is anti-aircraft defense. We do not have time to build a complete anti-aircraft shield against Russia. We have a large territory. And Russia has a lot of missiles. also – exchange of intelligence data. I think that it is very important for both countries that our intelligence services work," said Zelenskyy.
The president also said that if South Korea wants to know what the DPRK and its soldiers are capable of in reality, it should be beneficial for South Korea to be with Ukraine in order to really study the relevant materials.
Does South Korea provide weapons to Ukraine?
Responding to a question about whether South Korea is considering the possibility of supplying Ukraine with 155-mm artillery shells, the representative of the South Korean president explained that no request was received from the Ukrainian side and that such a plan is not being considered.
At the same time, according to him, the country plans to strengthen cooperation with Ukraine against the background of sending North Korean soldiers to Russia, and this week will begin negotiations regarding the visit of Kyiv's special envoy to South Korea.
