US President-elect Donald Trump may call on European troops to secure an 800-mile (1200-kilometer) buffer zone between the Russian and Ukrainian armies as part of a plan to freeze the war between the two countries. The Telegraph writes about this with reference to Trump's entourage.
It is noted that this plan is one of several that Trump is considering in order to fulfill his promises to end the war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
The president-elect's plan, outlined by three Trump staff members, calls for the current front line to be frozen and Ukraine to agree to delay its NATO ambitions for 20 years. In exchange, the US will flood Ukraine with weapons to deter Russia from resuming the war. At the same time, the US will not provide troops to patrol and protect the buffer zone, nor will it finance it.
"We can conduct training and provide other support, but the barrel of the gun will be European," said a member of Trump's team. "We are not sending American men and women to maintain peace in Ukraine." And we will not pay for it. Let the Poles, Germans, British and French do it."
