You were given an expensive, luxurious bouquet, and it stood for a couple of days in a vase and withered. Many have faced this. Often people blame the flower shop or believe that the bouquet was not given from the heart, and forget that flowers - even cut ones - need to be taken care of. Florist, owner of one of the flower shops, Daria Starokozhko, shared tips on how to do it right.
No vodka and aspirin: just change the water
It is believed that if you add vodka, aspirin or even "Domestos" to the water in the vase, which is used for cleaning the premises, the flowers will last longer.
According to the expert, what really helps the flowers last longer are specially designed products. For example, "Kryzal" powder. Many flower companies include a packet of this powder with the order.
Life hack: "There should be enough water in the vase, especially if the plants have a long stem," notes the florist. This is necessary so that not only the stem is saturated with water, but also the leaves and the flower itself.
Do not cut flowers with ordinary scissors
The flowers last longer in the vase if the cut is updated a little every day.
- But flowers should not be cut with scissors. If it's not flower or garden shears, - explains Daria. – Scissors press the capillaries - flower vessels, when pressed, the area of the stem with which it drinks water becomes smaller, it is squeezed.
To care for the flowers, the florist recommends purchasing secateurs or renewing the cut with a sharp clerical knife.
A monobouquet lasts longer than a combined one. Hyacinths kill
- The average service life of a collective bouquet is 3-7 days, - says the expert. - On the third day, some flowers begin to wither. Some varieties can even earlier. Composite bouquets are beautiful, but less durable than monobouquets.
The florist advises to remove all the extra leaves from the flowers - such bouquets last longer. When there are a lot of extraneous elements, the flower needs a lot of energy to support its life, and the bud itself, which feeds on the residual principle, withers faster.
- When buying a bouquet, we try to cut off excess leaves or add decorative greenery, - explains the florist. - If the client received a bouquet with leaves, we recommend plucking the excess and leaving a couple of leaves on top for beauty.
The expert says: there are varieties of flowers that shorten the life of "neighbors". As a rule, these are bulbs - tulips, hyacinths and daffodils. They secrete a sticky poisonous substance, due to which the flowers standing next to them wither faster.
If, for example, tulips are placed with roses, then the roses will stand many times less than if they were in a vase by themselves. The most poisonous, the florist notes, are hyacinths, they should be avoided in a complex bouquet.
We remove faded flowers, we do not put them near batteries and heat sources
If some flowers in the bouquet have spoiled, then the ones next to them will also start to spoil. Dying flowers release a substance that causes their neighbors to go through their life cycle faster. If possible, remove the flowers from the bouquet.
- You should not put flowers next to heating devices, a kitchen stove, near an open window. Flowers do not like drafts and temperature drops, - warns the expert.
If you brought flowers from the frost, let them just lie down for five to ten minutes, do not immediately put them in a vase. You should not carry flowers all day in the car, it is better to buy them immediately before giving. The sooner they are put in the water, the better.
