The High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell does not want to speculate on the topic of what will happen if the newly elected US President Donald Trump stops supporting Ukraine.

As the correspondent reports, the European diplomat said this at a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiga in Kyiv. In particular, the top diplomat of the EU was asked what the European Union should do specifically to provide aid to Ukraine, if the newly elected US President Donald Trump decides to cut aid to Ukraine.

Borrell reminded that on June 27, joint security commitments were signed between Ukraine and the European Union.

"These are long-term commitments of 27 member states to provide broad support to Ukraine in all directions - military, financial, humanitarian and political aid, for a period of 10 years. This commitment remains valid," Borrell said.

At the same time, according to him, it is too early to make any hasty judgments about what the administration of Donald Trump, which has not yet started and is not formed, will do.

"It may take two months to create it. And I can't speculate. I can say that our security commitments remain valid," Borrell added.

At the same time, he noted that if you combine all types of aid for Ukraine, then in general it will turn out that the EU has provided Ukraine with aid for 122 billion euros. This aid is approximately 47% of all aid received by Ukraine from the world. At the same time, as Borrell said, the total US aid to Ukraine is 40%:

"I don't want to speculate. I don't quite understand what an administration that has not yet started its duties will do, and even more so to determine what the response of the European Union will be... when there is no concrete proposal today from an administration that has not yet started its work" .

The high representative of the EU added that the funds for Ukraine's aid come from profits from Russian frozen assets, and the "Big Seven" countries agreed on a loan for Ukraine's aid.

Borrell added that the EU has already almost provided Ukraine with 1 million artillery shells, and the search for more shells will continue. By the end of winter, the number of Ukrainian soldiers who will be trained by the instructors of the EU mission to provide military assistance to Ukraine will increase to 75.

Important news - the war in Ukraine is in the center of attention

According to The Wall Street Journal, after winning the election, Donald Trump has already spoken with many leaders of European countries, who congratulated him on his victory. However, during these phone conversations, Trump did not make any statements about Ukraine.

At the same time, the BBC, with reference to Trump's adviser Brian Lanza, reports that the future administration of US President-elect Trump will focus on achieving peace in the war in Ukraine, and not on the return of the occupied territories. In particular, the White House will ask Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to present his version of a "realistic vision of peace."
