Since more and more people are living to old age in the world, the problems of cognitive decline are of great interest to scientists.
American geriatricians and neurologists conducted a study that helped reveal another early sign by which Alzheimer's disease can be recognized.
Specialists invited 220 people aged from 63 to 89 years. At the time of the start of the study, the level of their mental abilities corresponded to the norm, but in some brains they found accumulations of proteins that later become plaques, that is, early signs of Alzheimer's disease, which have not yet turned out to be specific symptoms. Also, the participants of the experiment were interviewed in detail about their social activity. Three years later, the study participants took the same tests again.
