Lime scale: how to clean bathroom faucets to a shine

The accumulation of lime scale on faucets in the bathroom or in the kitchen is a familiar problem for many housewives.

The faucet loses its luster, becomes dull and untidy. However, sudha.lukka has shown a simple and effective method that allows you to effortlessly restore the shine of your faucet with the help of a regular wax candle.

Lime scale is formed due to the high hardness of the water, that is, the presence of dissolved minerals such as calcium and magnesium. When water droplets remain on the surface of the faucet and dry, mineral residues settle and form a whitish plaque. Frequent contact with water in the bathroom and kitchen makes faucets vulnerable to this.

What is needed:

  • An ordinary wax candle
  • A soft towel

What shall I do:

  1. Wipe the faucet with a damp cloth or microfiber cloth to remove dust and dirt.
  2. Take an ordinary wax candle and rub it on the surface of the faucet, paying special attention to places where plaque often accumulates.
  3. Take a soft towel and wipe the faucet thoroughly. A soft cloth will help distribute the wax evenly over the surface and give it a shine.

Thanks to the waxy film, the water will no longer settle and leave no traces, which reduces the likelihood of re-accumulation of plaque. The wax creates a protective layer that makes the surface of the faucet water-repellent. Water drops simply run off the surface and do not remain on it, which significantly reduces the formation of white spots. This method is especially useful for those who do not want to spend time on constant cleaning, rubbing and using aggressive chemicals.

Advices:

  • To avoid heavy scale build-up, wipe the faucets with a dry cloth after each use. This will help keep the surface clean.
  • Use special mild cleaning agents suitable for metal surfaces. They help remove dirt without damaging the outer coating.
  • If your faucets are covered in stubborn plaque, try lemon juice. Apply some juice to a cloth and wipe the contaminated areas. Lemon juice acts as a natural solvent and removes calcium and leaves a light scent.
  • If you need to clean a heavily soiled surface, soak a cloth in vinegar and turn on the faucet for a few minutes. Then wipe with a towel. Vinegar helps to soften plaque and facilitate its removal.
