Plastic windows are considered almost airtight, but this is not entirely true - often drafts occur from plastic windows. How can I fix this problem myself?
RBC-Ukraine (Styler project) explains what methods there are to get rid of drafts from plastic windows.
Checking the status of the window
If you want to save on the insulation of plastic windows, you can do a lot of work yourself.
The first step is to check the condition of the seal: if it is damaged or worn, it must be replaced. To do this, remove the old seal and buy a new one at the hardware store, taking into account the dimensions. Installation of a new seal does not require special skills - just push it into the grooves, observing uniformity.
The next stage is setting the clamping mechanism. Using a hex key, put the rollers in winter mode, which will allow the sash to fit more tightly to the frame.
Also, do not forget to insulate the windowsills and outer corners of the window using foam or special heat-insulating materials. Regular inspection and maintenance of your windows will significantly increase their energy efficiency and ensure comfort in the room.
How to make internal insulation
Insulation of plastic windows is extremely important for keeping warm in the house during the cold months. There are many ways you can do it yourself to reduce drafts and improve insulation.
Internal insulation can significantly improve the thermal insulation of your window. The first thing to do is to seal all the gaps between the frames and the walls.
For this, it is recommended to use silicone sealant or acrylic putty. By filling the cracks, you will be able to reduce heat leakage, which will allow your apartment to remain warmer and cozier.
In addition, you can apply insulating materials to the inner walls of the window slopes. For example, you can use plasterboard or special thermal insulation panels that are easy to install.
After their installation, close the seams with putty or paint to provide an aesthetic appearance and additional thermal insulation. Do not forget to install curtains or heat-protective films, which can reduce heat loss through the glass.
How to make external insulation
External insulation is equally important and can significantly affect the overall efficiency of windows. The first thing to do is to prepare the window slopes.
To do this, clean them of dirt and dust, as well as remove old elements. Use mounting glue or special heat-insulating foam boards that can be easily cut to the desired size.
It is also worth installing perforated corners to strengthen the structure, which will provide additional stability of the insulation material. Do not forget about the installation of low tides to protect against moisture. Installing quality exterior ebbs will help prevent water ingress and ensure the longevity of your window.
Additional methods of insulation
One of the simple ways to insulate is to use a special construction tape that will help you close gaps and avoid drafts.
It is important to choose a high-quality tape that does not leave marks on the surface of the window. For a better result, apply tape in several layers if the gaps are significant.
You can also use foil films, which increase the efficiency of thermal insulation. They can be stuck on the windows, and they will reflect the heat inside the room.
If you want to reduce heating costs even more, consider installing special thermal insulation curtains or blinds, which can create an additional barrier against the cold.
