Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili refused to meet with the delegation
Politicians from France, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Finland and the Baltic countries flew to Tbilisi for negotiations after the parliamentary elections in the country.
The ruling party of Georgia "Georgian Dream" criticized the high-ranking politicians of the EU countries, who visited on November 11 and expressed concern about the parliamentary elections. This was reported by Politico on Monday, November 11.
Members of the foreign affairs committees of the parliaments of France, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Finland and the Baltic countries flew to Tbilisi for negotiations after the parliamentary elections in the country.
However, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, refused to meet with the delegation.
At a press conference together with Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, one of the members of the EU delegation, the head of the Bundestag Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael Roth, said that the visit was aimed "to express solidarity with the majority of Georgian citizens who aspire to EU membership."
On November 11, several tens of Georgian oppositionists gathered near the building of the presidential palace in Tbilisi as a sign of solidarity with President Zurabishvili and European MPs. After the press conference, the opposition members congratulated the European deputies.
