European contractor MBDA developed a new missile for submarines. It is designed to attack well-protected warships and land-based facilities, such as port infrastructure.
The rocket of French production, which received the name SM40, became the last representative of the Exocet family. The main elements that distinguish it from its predecessor SM39, there is the integration of a new J-Band RF homing head, algorithms adapted for high-intensity conditions, and twice the range of 120 kilometers.
SM40 was developed exclusively to equip submarines produced by the Naval Group. They are in service with the navies of several countries, including France and India.
