At the Capitol Visitor Center, law enforcement officers detained a man who smelled of fuel
The detention took place on the day of the presidential elections. The Capitol Visitor Center was closed to tours during the investigation.
In the United States, the police announced the arrest of a man who tried to enter the Capitol building with a torch and a flare, which also "smelled of fuel." This was reported by the Capitol Police on Tuesday, November 5.
A law enforcement official told CNN that the man was undergoing a routine security check when officers noticed a flare and a torch on him. He also had containers with him that smelled of gasoline.
"The man was immediately handcuffed. He stated that he wants to get into Congress," said the law enforcement officer.
It is currently unknown whether the incident is related to the US presidential election, which is taking place on November 5.
The police promised to provide more details "when they can".
