A fishing vessel sank in South Korea, there are casualties

At least two people have died and 12 others are missing after a fishing vessel sank off the South Korean island of Jeju on Friday, November 8.

As reported by Ukrinform, Yonhap reports this with reference to the statement of the country's coast guard.

It is noted that there were 129 crew members on board the 27-ton vessel — 16 South Korean citizens and 11 Indonesians.

The Coast Guard received a distress signal at 04:31 that the ship was sinking 24 kilometers from Jeju.

A boat nearby found 15 crew members of the sunken vessel, two of them dead.

Of the 12 crew members who are considered missing, 10 are South Korean and two are Indonesian.

The Coast Guard said an underwater search for the missing began around 13 p.m. with 27 divers from several specialized rescue teams.

A total of 43 vessels, including 23 coast guard boats, three naval vessels and 13 private fishing vessels, are involved in the search operation, as well as 13 aircraft.

South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol was informed of the incident and gave instructions to mobilize all available resources to rescue the missing.
