In the Russian Federation, the department was renamed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will now deal with "European problems"
The Department of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation was renamed the "Department of European Problems" against the background of "changes in geopolitical realities and the need to adapt to them."
The department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, which is responsible for European policy, is now called the department of European problems — against the background of the "degradation of cooperation" in Europe, according to the head of the department, Maria Zakharova. This was reported by rosZMI on Monday, November 4.
Zakharova explained the corresponding step by "the change in geopolitical realities and the need to adapt the activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation to them" and, in her words, "the obvious degradation of the structures of multilateral cooperation in Europe."
Despite this, the unit will continue to deal with issues of international European organizations — the OSCE, the Council of Europe, the European Union, and NATO.
It is noted that the department was headed by Vladyslav Maslennikov, who was appointed director of the department of pan-European cooperation on October 18, which was renamed the department of European problems.
