Republicans in Congress should adopt a new program of military aid to Ukraine, so that Donald Trump does not go to peace talks in Ukraine empty-handed. This was announced by the pro-Ukrainian human rights group Razom, writes HuffPost.
Activists are calling on Congress to pass a new aid program before Trump takes office in January.
"The aid package should allow Ukrainians to survive the winter, push back Putin's forces, and give President-elect Trump the necessary flexibility to act from a position of strength. The inability to urgently adopt an additional package risks undermining the position of the newly elected President Trump even before he takes office," says the statement of "Together".
As Doug Klein, political analyst of Razom, explained, by the end of the year, Joe Biden plans to exhaust the money provided for the current program of military aid to Ukraine. Trump will need to turn to Congress for similar funding once Biden is gone.
According to Klein, this would give Trump an opportunity to show Russia that he is not going to simply “[let] Putin do what he wants.”
However, a spokesman for House Speaker Mike Johnson told HuffPost that the Republican majority does not plan to address the issue of Ukraine in the near future.
Trump's return: prospects for Ukraine
As I wrote, until Trump took practical steps, expectations from his policy were completely opposite. For example, British Defense Minister John Geely is convinced that Donald Trump will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary.
Instead, the Prime Minister of Poland already wants to create a new European alliance to protect Europe and support Ukraine, expecting that Trump, on the contrary, will start isolating America.
