The Tokyo Stock Exchange will extend trading hours for the first time in 70 years

Japan's Tokyo Stock Exchange will extend daily trading hours by 5 minutes from November 30 in a bid to add "market vibrancy".
This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to NHK.

Currently, the stock market in Tokyo operates from 9 am to 15 pm with a break from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Opening hours will be extended to 5pm from Tuesday 15th November, following a three-day weekend and bank holiday period.

This is the first extension of trading hours of this exchange since 1954.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange is said to have begun considering extending hours after a major system failure in 2020 that halted trading for the day.

The management of the exchange expects that the extension of working hours will make trading more convenient for investors.

Also, the exchange believes that even in the event of a system failure, a longer work schedule will provide investors with more trading opportunities immediately after the problems are resolved.

Exchange officials explained that the failure in the system that sends trade data was caused by a hardware problem and not the result of a cyber attack.
