The name of US President Joe Biden was not on the ballot. However, allies of Vice President Kamala Harris blame him for her defeat.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Associated Press.

As Democrats recover from President-elect Donald Trump's landslide victory, some of the vice president's supporters are expressing disappointment at Biden's decision to push for re-election well into the summer, despite long-standing concerns among voters about his age. In addition, post-pandemic inflation concerns and the situation on the US-Mexico border actually determined the handing over of the White House by the Biden party.

In particular, this position was expressed by Andrew Young, who in 2020 ran against Biden for the post of candidate for the Democratic Party candidate and supported Harris's unsuccessful attempt.

"The biggest burden of this loss rests on President Biden. If he had resigned in January and not in July, we could be in a different position," he said.

The publication reminds that Biden will leave his post after leading the United States out of the worst pandemic in a century, providing international support to Ukraine after the invasion of Russia, and passing a $1 trillion infrastructure bill that will affect communities for many years to come.

But, having put forward his candidacy against Trump four years ago in order to "restore the soul of the country", Biden will give way to his immediate predecessor in just one term. The same one who overcame two impeachments, a conviction for a criminal offense and an insurrection started by his supporters. Trump has promised to overhaul the federal government and roll back many of Biden's priorities.

Tom Reilly, co-director of the Center for an Independent and Sustainable Democracy at Arizona State University, said history may remember some of Biden's achievements. But not in the short term.

"Perhaps in 20 or 30 years history will remember Biden for some of these achievements. But in the short term, I don't know if he will avoid the legacy of a president who will defeat Donald Trump, welcome another Donald Trump administration to power in four years," he said.
