The President of the European Council condemned the attacks on Israeli fans in Amsterdam

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, called the attacks on Israeli football fans in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, shameful and emphasized his commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism.

He wrote about this on the X social network, reports Ukrinform.

"I strongly condemn the absolutely disgraceful attacks on Israeli citizens in Amsterdam. Such acts of violence and hatred must be unequivocally rejected in any society. Our commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of hatred is unwavering," said Michel.

He noted that the European Union will continue to make targeted efforts to promote tolerance, ensure respect and protect the safety and well-being of all people.

The attackers were wearing masks, some of them carrying Palestinian flags and shouting "Free Palestine". Several attempted kidnappings have been reported on social networks. The attackers also broke into the hotels where the Israelis stayed.

Law enforcement officers detained 62 people.
