It is noted that Mattarella, during his visit to China, seeks to strengthen diplomatic ties and gain support for a joint approach to solving global problems. He is scheduled to meet with the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, in Beijing.
"During a series of strategic discussions, Mattarella is expected to urge Xi to play an active role in mediating two critical global conflicts — the war in Ukraine and the escalation of tensions in the Middle East," the publication said.
According to the newspaper, citing Italian diplomatic sources, Beijing's participation may be crucial, as the international community is looking for ways to establish peace in regions where the traditional influence of the West has reached a dead end.
Security, trade and cultural relations between Italy and China are also expected to be discussed during the talks.
The representative of the US to NATO, Ambassador Julianne Smith, stated that China only feigns its "neutral" attitude towards the war in Ukraine, but in fact it has made its choice in favor of the Kremlin and provides concrete support to the aggressor, which fuels its attacks against peaceful Ukrainian cities and positions of the Armed Forces.
