US presidential candidate Donald Trump's plans to end the war in Ukraine may not be acceptable to the Russian Federation.
For the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin himself, this would be a very bad scenario, informs UAINFO.org with reference to The Washington Post.
The publication emphasizes that for Putin, the US elections are taking place at a critical moment, as he and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, are facing increasing pressure, as a full-scale war has been going on for almost three years.
WP notes that Trump's candidacy is in line with Moscow's agenda, as he has repeatedly criticized US spending on aid to Ukraine. However, one of the Russian officials told the newspaper on condition of anonymity that "the result of these elections will not change the situation for Russia."
According to him, relations between the USA and Russia have reached an impasse.
"And everyone became hostage to it - even Putin," said the anonymous interlocutor.
At the same time, the publication noted that Trump's victory may be associated with a risk for Russia. It is unclear whether Putin will agree to any deal proposed by Trump to end the war, which in turn could lead to a rift between the two.
In particular, Trump's ex-advisers, Fred Fleitz and retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, have announced a plan that involves a temporary ceasefire on the current front line. At the same time, Ukraine will be forced to go to peace talks with the Russian Federation in order to continue receiving Western weapons.
These proposals were sharply criticized for transferring the territories of Kyiv to Russia, but analysts believe that "for Putin, this is a very bad scenario," since "he doesn't want the territory, he wants Ukraine."
In their opinion, possible negotiations between the Russian Federation and the USA regarding Ukraine will reach a dead end and "Trump will never offer Putin what he wants in Ukraine."
