The US believes that China's support for Russia's defense sector is a decisive factor in the Kremlin's continuation of the war against Ukraine.
According to Ukrinform's own correspondent in New York, Deputy US Ambassador Robert Wood said this at the meeting of the UN Security Council on Thursday.
"China's support for Russia is crucial," he said. - Support from China prolongs the war. China talks about creating conditions for peace. But he could quickly create these conditions by ending support for Russia."
According to Wood, China continues to downplay the extent of its support for Russia's defense and industrial base. At the same time, he provides it with, in particular, weapons components, UAV and cruise missile technology, machine tools, microelectronics, and nitrocellulose. Chinese companies have cooperated with Russian defense firms in the development and production of long-range attack drones, he added.
"China has no reason to claim that it is in favor of peace, as it enables Russia to wage the biggest war in Europe in recent decades," the diplomat emphasized.
He reminded that China abstained when 141 countries, having adopted the appropriate resolution of the General Assembly, condemned the invasion of the Russian Federation and the violation of the UN Charter and called for the withdrawal of troops from Ukraine.
"Even now, China could help end the war if it called on Russia to withdraw its troops in line with Ukraine's internationally recognized borders," Wood said.
He also talked about the assistance provided to Russia by North Korea and Iran.
Already now, the deployment of North Korean troops in Russia marks a dangerous expansion of ties between Moscow and Pyongyang, the US deputy ambassador noted. He recalled that North Korea illegally supplies Russia with ballistic missiles, launchers and ammunition for waging war. All this is a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
"We strongly condemn the path chosen by the Kremlin in relations with the DPRK," the American diplomat summed up.
On Thursday, Russia once again convened a meeting of the UN Security Council to "condemn" military aid to Ukraine. Every time during such attempts, the members of the Republic of Belarus point out to the Russian delegation that support to Ukraine is carried out in accordance with the UN Charter and international law, while the Russian Federation itself receives military aid, violating the sanctions of the Security Council.
