The future President of the USA, Donald Trump, during the talks with the leaders of the EU, made it clear that he will not push Ukraine to make unilateral concessions to the aggressor country Russia without benefit.
As reported by the Bloomberg agency with reference to sources, the leaders of the EU countries are trying to find out whether they will be able to support Ukraine's military efforts if Trump decides to end support from the United States, informs UAINFO.org with reference to NV.
According to the agency, at the summit of the European Political Community in Budapest, officials discussed whether the EU would be ready to help Ukraine financially.
The biggest worry is that Trump will try to shift the financial burden to Europe, although nothing in the initial talks indicates a significant change of course, writes Bloomberg.
Some European officials believe that the problem lies not so much in money as in the available military resources, which came mainly from the United States.
Some argued that Europe should wait until Trump's inauguration in January to learn about his intentions for Ukraine. Meanwhile, others said EU leaders "don't have that luxury" so the European Commission should come up with proposals for how the bloc would respond to the likely end of US aid.
According to the agency, the future US president has already started his first round of telephone talks with European leaders.
The unnamed senior official said at least one of those conversations included a discussion of how Trump might approach negotiations with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
"Trump has made it clear that he realizes that he cannot simply push Ukraine to make concessions to Putin without getting anything in return," the senior official said.
