On November 12, the first group of Ukrainian Legion volunteers signed contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the recruiting center deployed in Lublin, Poland.
The volunteers read the terms of the contracts in advance, and the signing process took place in turn.
According to the representative of the center, Peter Horkusha, more than 600 people have applied to join the legion.
A week ago, it was reported that during the month of operation of the Center, more than 500 applications were received from Ukrainians living abroad.
In general, Ukrainian citizens living in 30 countries of the world submitted applications to the center within a month.
"We receive the most applications from Ukrainian men and women who live in Poland and the Czech Republic, but there are also those from geographically distant regions - Great Britain, Ireland and even Canada and the USA," the center officer clarified.
You can apply through the official website legion.army.gov.ua or in consulates and embassies of Ukraine.
We should add that the Vice President of Poland, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysh, recently stated that "too few" Ukrainians volunteered for the Ukrainian Legion in Poland.
We are not responsible for recruitment. However, the number of people who had to volunteer from the Ukrainian side is too small. At the beginning, these declarations were very high - that even a brigade could be formed, that is, several thousand people. However, this did not happen, he said.
Kosiniak-Kamysh noted that Poland has already trained approximately 20 Ukrainian soldiers, who were later sent to the front. He added that Poland is ready to continue training Ukrainian soldiers.
We have prepared for this. This was within the framework of the agreement signed between Poland and Ukraine, the vice president said.
Kamysh also added that the fact that there is a significant need for Ukrainian military personnel and that many young men in Poland who speak Ukrainian do not volunteer to join the army "causes certain emotions" in Polish society.
