The new Opel Grandland made its debut only recently, but it has already managed to mark its first major achievement: the flagship crossover of the Opel brand has won the prestigious award "Golden Steering Wheel 2024" (Golden Steering Wheel) in its native Germany. Stylish, dynamic, spacious, with a wide range of electrified power units - these are strong arguments that convinced the experts of the award to call the new product "The best crossover at a price of up to 50 euros". The award, presented by AUTO BILD and BILD am SONNTAG publications, is recognized as one of the most famous and prestigious in the modern European automotive world. This year's victory won by the New Opel Grandland was the 000st for Opel in the overall list of "Golden Steering Wheel" awards: an incredible achievement of the famous German Brand!
Florian Huettl, CEO of the Opel Brand, shared his emotions and impressions at the award ceremony in Berlin's Axel Springer Haus: "The new Opel Grandland brings the automotive future to real roads today. This is the first Opel vehicle on a platform created with an emphasis on BEV electric vehicles. Thanks to this, it is possible to provide an impressive autonomous mileage in combination with excellent driving comfort. And the combination of bold new solutions and "purity" in the external design of the new product is generally exceptional. We are glad that the representatives of AUTO BILD and BILD am SONNTAG appreciated this innovative spirit and awarded our car with the "Golden Steering Wheel".
Details about the New Opel Grandland
With the debut of the Opel Experimental concept car, the Opel brand clearly presented its own vision of "German energy" and the direction of the automotive future. And today, the completely new Opel Grandland already embodies many innovations that first appeared on the Opel Experimental concept. The Opel Grandland flagship crossover is the first car of the Brand, which is built on the STLA Medium platform: architecture for a BEV-electric vehicle (Battery Electric Vehicle), numerous innovative technologies, developed environmental solutions.
Thanks to the new design with the characteristic 3D Vizor front part, the new car always "shine": for the first time, the branded Opel Blitz logo is illuminated. The rear of the New Opel Grandland also attracts attention, especially in the dark - instead of the usual logo, the trunk lid now features a permanently illuminated Opel nameplate.
The interior of the New Opel Grandland is equipped with two large-format displays for the driver. Together with the optional Intelli-HUD head-up display, this layout guarantees easy and quick access to information while keeping an eye on the road at all times. Also, for additional convenience, the Pure Mode mode is provided, which reduces the content of information to the necessary minimum - it is especially convenient at night or while driving at high speed.
The highly ergonomic front seats have already been certified by AGR (Aktion Gesunder Rücken eV, organization for the care of a healthy back) and offer the possibility of adjusting not only the position of the cushion and backrest, but also lateral support. Thus, the seats provide reliable fixation of the body, a feeling of peace and confidence, and driving pleasure. The optional Intelli-Seat ergonomic feature is standard on both front seats.
Separately, it is worth noting the innovative solution for improving safety and comfort during trips. For example, Intelli-Lux HD matrix headlights with more than 50 LED elements, which manage to avoid dazzling other drivers, as well as a practical Pixel Box shelf with an illuminated translucent surface and wireless charging. Finally, thanks to the large trunk with a usable volume of up to 000 liters, the New Opel Grandland offers plenty of space for transporting bulky items.
Opel and the prestigious "Golden Steering Wheel" award: 21 winners with a lightning bolt logo!
The new Opel Grandland has become the latest acquisition from the Opel brand in the list of winners of the "Golden steering wheel" award. This prestigious award has been presented by the publishing house Axel Springer BILD am SONNTAG (since 2009 in cooperation with the publication AUTO BILD) since 1976. Only 2 years after the launch of the award, in 1978, a car with a lightning bolt logo became the winner for the first time: it was the business class sedan Opel Senator A. From that time until today, the famous German car manufacturer Opel has won the prestigious "Golden Steering Wheel" award already 21 times.
Readers of the German editions AUTO BILD and BILD am SONNTAG have always chosen the winners of the "Golden Steering Wheel" very carefully and rationally. First, they vote for new cars and thus three favorites in each category are chosen, who then enter the finals. The next step is the tests at the DEKRA Lausitzring training ground in Germany, where a professional jury consisting of journalists, racing drivers, and automotive experts tests the finalists according to the criteria of the AUTO BILD publication - and already among them determines the winner.
Very often, this winner was the car of the Opel brand; for example…
