The tape is based on the world bestseller of the British writer Robert Harris, which was released in 2016 and received recognition among readers and critics.

After the death of the Pope, Cardinal Lawrence urgently needs to organize a Conclave at which Catholic cardinals from all over the world must elect a new head of the Church. During the organization and conduct of the Conclave, Lawrence will have to deal with the intrigues of the Vatican and prevent the secrets of the Church from getting into the press. Step by step, the cardinal learns the shocking secrets of the deceased Pope. Some of them are able to destroy the careers and reputation of candidates for the place of God's vicegerent on Earth.

The main role in the expected psychological thriller was played by the legendary Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes ("Schindler's List", "The English Patient", "Red Dragon", "Harry Potter" series, "The Reader", "The Grand Budapest Hotel", "The Menu"). The star of the film was Stanley Tucci, well known to the Ukrainian audience ("Terminal", "The Devil Wears Prada", "Julie and Julia", the "Hunger Games" series). The superstar cast was joined by John Lithgow, an Oscar nominee and winner of the most prestigious Tony and Golden Globe awards. The main female role was played by the iconic Isabella Rossellini ("Blue Velvet", "Wild Hearts", "Death Suits Her", the show "Napoleon").

The film was directed by the Austrian-Swiss director, Oscar winner Edward Berger, who received worldwide recognition for the film adaptation of Remarque's novel "On the Western Front Without Changes."

One of the producers of the future hit was Tessa Ross, who is responsible for the release of such tapes as "Slumdog Millionaire", "The Iron Lady", "12 Years a Slave", "Ex Machina", "The Last King of Scotland", "How to Lose Friends and make everyone hate you', '127 Hours', 'The Room', 'Macbeth', and 'Carol'.




The tape was shown for the first time as part of the out-of-competition program of this year's Venice Film Festival and caused a furor among the audience of two other prestigious film reviews - the International Film Festival in Toronto and the festival in Telluride (USA).
