Dealers plan to replace 100 faulty engines in popular Toyota models

Toyota is preparing for one of the biggest and most expensive reviews in its history. The company's dealerships in the United States have announced that they are ready to replace about 100 defective motors that were installed in the popular local market Tundra pickup truck and Lexus SUV of the 2022 and 2023 model years.

The problem with the 3,5-liter twin-turbocharged V6, whose response was announced back in May but never started, is related to periodic failures of such motors due to a metal line that contaminates the oil. It is claimed that debris got into the cylinder blocks during their assembly.

The obvious solution for Toyota was to dismantle the defective power units for disassembly, cleaning and reassembly, but such a process would have been too long and time-consuming. Instead, the Japanese decided to completely replace the faulty motors.

In total, 102 thousand 292 cars will be affected, in which engine replacement will take from 13 to 21 hours of work.

Engine replacement will be done by appointment, as most dealerships will not have spare diesel engines in stock. Instead, they will be ordered from Toyota once the meeting with the customer is confirmed and the repair scheduled.

This will allow not to overload production and avoid long queues. However, there is no timetable for when the engine recall program will be completed.

As a result, many Tundra and Lexus LX owners will once again have to wait until their vehicles can return to public roads in good condition.
