Every home probably has at least one wooden spoon or spatula: they are so convenient to use on non-stick and delicate surfaces. But not everyone knows how to clean them properly.
Even in the most modern kitchens, you can still find wooden spoons and spatulas - this is always a reliable tool that can bring a lot of benefit during cooking, Channel 24 reports with reference to Martha Stewart.
How to care for a wooden spoon
Wooden spoons are tools that require special care, but it's surprisingly easy to care for. And the first rule, which, unfortunately, too many people forget, is the ban on soaking them in water. Another important thing is that they need to be lubricated with oil from time to time in order to reduce the effect of water on the surface, because it is porous.
This can cause warping and cracking, so it's best not to break either rule.
But ordinary care is one thing, and cleaning is quite another. Silicone spatulas with wooden handles and all-wood cookware should never be put in the dishwasher, so perfect cleaning is by hand. You should use a mild detergent and hot water.
It would also be best to use lemon and a little baking soda - this is the best way to get rid of any odors that the wooden spatula might pick up. Or you can simply rub the surface with a cut half of a lemon and rub the top with a paste of water and baking soda.
Be sure to wash off this product with soap and running water and allow the spatula to dry completely before storing it in a drawer.
How to choose the best wooden spoon
Wooden dishes are made from different woods, and if you decide to buy a new spoon, pay attention to options made from hardwoods. In particular, spoons made of beech, cherry, maple, olive or walnut will be the best options.
By the way, it is recommended to replace the wooden spoon every 5 years. By this time, you will already notice that your dishes retain both the smell and color of a certain food. But when you see that the wooden spoon has started to split, this is a signal that you need to buy a new one.
